December 2017 Update
So, Lostwithiel is positively alive with festivities this month, and a good few of them taking place at the Community Centre, starting with the Christmas Fair and Craft Market this coming Sunday 3rd, then followed by the Johnny Cowling concert on Friday 8th, and continuing with the Mayor's Tea Party on Tuesday 12th - Make sure you come to at least one of these, if not all three! For those who can't resist continuous action at this time of year, there's even another Toy Fair on New Year's Eve!
And with the Community Centre itself now fully back in action for this Christmas, we're delighted to be taking part in the Christmas Tree Festival in St Bartholomew's Church between 3rd and 29th December (open daily 10am-4pm). Make sure you pop into the church at some point to see our tree and those of the many other local organisations also taking part.
Meanwhile, you've just made possible yet another record-breaking month for your Centre in November, with bookings once again hitting their highest levels since the Centre fully re-opened earlier in the year. The new Adult Ballet class (Thursday evenings, 8 - 9pm, upstairs in Oasis) is proving extremely popular, and Tapercise (Wednesday afternoons, 1.30 - 2.30pm in the main hall) continues to grow week by week...
As the result of this growing level of activity, superb support from the Town Council, local organisations, businesses and individuals (and not a little effort on the part of its committee, staff and volunteers!) we're delighted, this month, to be able to give the town the Christmas present of announcing that the Centre has now succeeded in clearing all its former trading and statutory debts and can continue to move forward with renewed financial confidence.
Reflecting this, the Centre has also been able to make a start on a whole new raft of facility improvements designed to attract still more activity over the coming months, and if you're coming to the Johnny Cowling concert on 8th December – tickets selling strongly now, so make sure you've got yours! – much of this should be encouragingly evident. Hopefully, these ever-improving facilities will trigger more people into thinking of ever more imaginative uses that could be made of them! Weddings! Parties! Concerts!
Finally this month, we hope the whole town will take great pride in the fact that, in reflection of what is rightly regarded as "the close connection between the town of Lostwithiel and the Duchy", your Centre has just received a significant financial contribution towards its long-term development plans from His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales Duke of Cornwall. Your committee see this as a significant endorsement of what it is continuing to try to achieve for the town with the Centre, and we hope the whole town, too, will feel similarly supported and encouraged by this contribution.
Thank you for your ever-increasing use of your Centre – as we've said before and now say again, the better it gets used, the better it'll get.
Till the next update in the New Year, best wishes for a peaceful Christmas and a great New Year from all your LCA Team at the Centre.
