August 2017 Update - The Centre Is Blooming!

We are officially open again now after our esteemed Mayor Pam Jarrett cut the ribbon on Saturday 8th July. Thank you to all who attended, shared the celebration cake and joined us for a photo opportunity.

Our new flower bed, donated and built by Jim King, and planted by Duchy Nursery, is helping to make the Centre look loved again. We've also got our new planters, donated by the Town Council and refurbished by Richard Bower thank you to all. With the warmer weather, tables are now outside for visitors and locals to enjoy their tasty cakes and lunches from Miss V's Cream Teas. If you haven't visited yet you are missing out, so pop down any day bar Tuesday between 10.30am and 4pm for a delicious treat. Remember pizza night is on a Monday 5.30-7.30pm with the wonderful Kernow Forno wood fired pizzas.

Bookings are coming in fast and furious for new classes and events. While we await the new website (being produced by Lostwithiel's very own Spanish contingent Mat and Kat at Iteracy) please do check out our existing one at www.lostwithielcommunitycentre.org.uk or our Facebook page, and remember to like us and share news or events that catch your eye.

We have regular yoga, Zumba, and dance classes as well as our Antique Fairs and Craft Markets. On a Wednesday morning we now have the Maker's Market, majoring on textiles and materials, and offering weekly workshops, advice on sewing, patchwork, crochet and knitting.

In July the Centre hosted the public consultation on Edgcumbe House, Taprell house and The Guildhall. This was co-ordinated by the Town Council, Rio and La Page Architects. It was wonderful to see so many of you there, giving your thoughts and opinions on how these buildings can better be used. Our town has lost some valuable services of late and it is only by getting behind community projects that we can ensure we keep the good parts and improve on what's not working. Ideas for a Post Office in the library and a larger museum were just a few that were discussed at the consultation. We look forward to hearing further news on these valuable community buildings soon.

The Carnival will be passed by the time you read this we are a few days into the week-long festivities as we write, thunderstorms above the Centre and a rounders match in full swing despite the rain. The Charity Fayre Day was well attended and we saw many of you enjoying cream teas provided by Amy and her team at Miss V's.

Looking forward to September: we have a Barn Dance in the offing on the 16th, 7.00p.m. till 9.30pm remember to check our Facebook page for details or better still call in and see us. The Centre is currently open every day 10am-4pm manned by our wonderful team of friendly volunteers. Come and look around, see the improvements as we steadily work through our mammoth to-do list, and check out the rooms to hire.

Wishing you all a bright and sunny August; for now happy holidays!

The LCA Team
